KITH - The Birth of Urban Hype
When it comes to streetwear, words like hype & urban are massively used without questioning where they originated from. This was way before the Virgils, Jerrys and Mike Amiris popped up. Back in the days, where streetwear was born as part within the sneaker industry there is a name you need to drop in the discussion. One name who today is still shaping it massively by his communities within the US and beyond - Ronnie Fieg. Started as a simple sneaker store staff member at David Z he quickly understood a certain need within the footwear industry for a certain type of bottoms - which ideally highlight the back in the days starting to bloom sneaker hype. Adjusted a certain chino pant with the help of a tailor he knew in New York he modified the classic ones and flipped them in David Z’s sneaker retail space. As time went by he opened his own first retail space as the need for a certain aesthetic was missing out in NY. Rapidly he became one of New York’s youngsters and kept connecting with people who shared the same mindset as Teddy Santis from Aime Leon Dore, Guillaume Philibert from Filling PIeces, Victor Cruz from sports and many many more. His talent for gathering the right people and fuse energies fram various cultures and industries is remarkable. Long story short, after countless collaborations with Tommy Hilfiger, Coca Cola, Timberland, Bergdorf Goodman, Columbia, Wilson, Calvin Klein, Disney, Star Wars and maaaaaaaaaaany more, he is undenieable one of the key figures in today’s, excuse the played out wording, urband streetwear.
